YellowStone National Park
After several years of procrastination, I finally made a trip to Yellowstone National Park in the summer of 2005. It would have been foolish not
go..considering that it was just a 9 hour drive from Fort Collins where I used to live.
We put up at the town of Cody in Wyoming, which was about an hour away from Yellowstone. Staying at Cody was a good choice as that way we
could also enjoy the scenic byway that would lead us to the park's east entrance. This route, skirting the Bufallo Bill reservoir, is a great prelude to
Yellowstone (check out my picture gallery).
Yellowstone was breathtakingly beautiful and did not disappoint, although I wish I could have taken better pictures. Two days was just about enough to cover most of the
attractions that included:
- Yellowstone Lake: awesome!
- The Old Faithful geyser: If you don't see this, you havent been to Yellowstone.
- The Lower falls along Uncle Tom's trail: This trail drops about 150m and takes you right down the canyon to the base of the of the Lower Falls
- Artist Point: A breathtaking view of the Grand Canyon of Yellowstone.
- The Mammoth hot springs
You will also enjoy the scenic drives inside the park.
A few tips: If you are planning on driving through Wyoming like we did, its best to fill up whenever you get the chance. We nearly ran out
of gas a couple of times. Also unless you are planning on doing something more adventurous, a couple of days should be enough for sightseeing.
